Stories

The funny thing about writing is that you don’t choose your stories — they choose you. They are an expression of a deeper part of yourself, that you don’t recognize, and that you may never recognize. I think the job of the writer isn’t to judge these stories, but to help give them logical form, so they can be shared with others. “A dream is a personal myth; a myth is a shared dream,” says Joseph Campbell. (I don’t think I can go a day without quoting this man.) Whenever I have trouble getting a story right, rather than blaming myself, it’s better instead to just think, “How can I better share this dream so others can understand it?” I think what I love the most about writing is the magic of it all.
